The Permeation Test Cell for ASTM F-739, F-1383, EN374, and EN16523-1
Was developed through a voluntary consensus process by ASTM Committee F-23 on Protective Clothing. This cell is used worldwide to determine the permeation of hazardous chemicals through protective clothing. A smaller 1″ cell is available, which gives comparable results to the original larger 2″ cell. The smaller cell allows for use of smaller volumes of test chemical and is more convenient for testing small swatches of material.
The 2 inch cell and the smaller 1 inch cell were validated by ASTM by inter-laboratory testing and provide chemical resistance data on clothing materials. The cell is used to measure both the breakthrough time and permeation rate of a liquid or gas through a barrier material. Producers of protective clothing use the permeation test cell to report on the performance of their products against various chemicals. Chemical resistance guides are published which help users of protective clothing select the most resistant glove, suit or boot.
Breakthrough Time
Measure the time it takes for the chemical to permeate through the material.
sample size
1" and 2" test cells available depending on material sample size tested.
tested chemical
The test cell is offered in glass, stainless steel or PTFE depending on the type of chemical used for testing.
regulate temperatures
Available in Immersible or Ambient test cell applications for the ability to use a water bath to control temperatures.
